ABSTRACT
Introduction: Fetal death occurs in one of every
thousand births worldwide, increasing in Mexico 20
per 1000. The causes are divided into maternal, placental
or fetal.
Objective: To determine the clinical
factors associated with fetal death.
Material and Methods: Two-year analytical descriptive
study. The number of births in the period and
the frequency of fetal death were determined. Two
groups were identified according to age. Schooling,
prenatal control, maternal age, high risk pregnancy,
maternal comorbidities, gyneco-obstetric histories
were obtained. A bivariate analysis was performed
and a significance level of p ‹0.05 was considered.
Results: Of 7170 births, 43 cases had fetal death,
a rate of six per 1000 live births; of these cases mean
gestational age 33.6 ± 4.7 weeks. Mean maternal
age 30.05 ± 7.2 years. 88.4% had adequate prenatal
control. Diabetes mellitus 15 (34.9%). Obesity
grade I. 23 cases (53%). Vaginal birth 23 (53.5%).
The first cause was placental with 16 (37.2%). Smoking
in 16 cases (37.2%). The average number of
successes was 2.7. We found association as risk
factors for multi-patient patients, with DM2, hypertension,
and antecedent of previous fetal death.
RP› 1 (p ‹0.05).
Conclusion: Six per 1000 live births end in fetal
death. Quintana Roo is below the national average
but 600% above the world average. Women older
than 35 years remain a risk population for fetal death.
