ABSTRACT
The marginal zone lymphoma is a group of neoplasms with three
established subtypes: nodal, extra nodal and splenic; each one with
their own histopathological, cytogenetic and clinical characteristics.
Nowadays Hodgkin’s lymphoma is considered the neoplasm with
the best improvement over its prognosis in the last 10 years. It has
becoming an almost controllable disease. The splenic subtype, is
the rarest marginal zone lymphoma being ‹ 1% of all non Hodgking
lymphoma. We report the case of a female patient of 64 years-old,
whose most important manifestation was abdominal pain. A simple
computerized axial tomography was performed which revealed
splenomegaly 22 cm in its major diameter. On the other hand,
the nodal subtype is characterized for being located at the lymphatic
nodes in absence of other organ infiltration. A case of a 56 years old
male who presented chronic sinusitis symptoms is reported. A
simple computerized axial tomography plain skull was performed,
which reveal a tumor of 4 x 2 cm located at the right maxillary sinus.
The extra nodal lymphoma associated to mucosa-associated
lymphoid tissue, is the most common subtype and it is closely
related to certain infections like Helicobacter pylori in gastric
lymphoma and chronic inflammatory diseases.
