ABSTRACT

Introduction: obstetric anesthesia provides surgical pain relief and safety to the pregnant woman, objectives that are achieved preferably with regional techniques.
Objective: to evaluate the clinical efficacy of 0,5 % bupivacaine with different doses of fentanyl for spinal anesthesia in pregnant women who undergo caesarean section.
Method: a controlled and randomized experimental study was carried out in the General Provincial Teaching Hospital "Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola" from Ciego de Ávila from March to November 2015, in order to evaluate the clinical efficacy of 10 mg of 0,5% bupivacaine associated with 25 μg and 50 μg of fentanyl for spinal anesthesia in cesarean section. The sample consisted of 150 patients randomly assigned to two groups.
Results: no significant differences were found between the groups in terms of the time variables studied and the block level. 66 patients presented hypotension, tremors 48, and pruritus 38.
Conclusions: the 0,5% bupivacaine associated with different doses of fentanyl is very useful in caesarean section due to its rapid onset of action, short latency period and prolonged anesthesia time.
