ABSTRACT
Introduction.
Hypertension occupies the third place of the reasons for consultation of chronic diseases and affects 30% of the adult population. Its presence
is associated with an increase in cardiovascular risk, in addition to representing an increase in morbidity with deterioration of quality of life.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the quality of life in patients with controlled and uncontrolled arterial hypertension in the Family
Medical Unit number 51 in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
Material and Methods.
This is an analytical cross-sectional study carried out in adult patients with chronic arterial hypertension assigned to the U.M.F. No. 51 of
the IMSS. The SF-36 survey was applied to determine the quality of life of the respondents. We used descriptive statistics (means, median,
averages) as well as inferential statistics, performing the χ
2 and OR test to complement their analysis.
Results.
We included 321 patients, 214 (66.7%) were controlled and 107 (33.3%) were uncontrolled. The only sociodemographic variable with
statistical significance was the female sex. The estimation of risk for inadequate control of blood pressure and impaired quality of life was 3,944
(CI 95% 2,844,-5,470, p‹0 .001).
Discussion.
Uncontrolled patients presented greater deterioration of the quality of life. The blood pressure control through pharmacological and nonpharmacological
treatment impacts the quality of life of those who suffer from it.
