ABSTRACT
The treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism is the surgical removal of all hyperfunctioning parathyroid tissue. Primary hyperparathyroidism surgery has evolved from classic bilateral neck exploration to minimally invasive techniques thanks to the improvement in preoperative localization methods. With this technique, cure rates above 95 % have been described, similar to bilateral neck examination. The purpose of this study is to present the minimally invasive video-assisted parathyroidectomy practiced for the first time in our center and in Cuba to a patient with primary hyperparathyroidism.
