ABSTRACT
This article is about the significance of social sciences in the study and treatment of hereditary ataxias. The main site chosen for the research was the Center for the Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias in Holguin City, Cuba. This is the only center in the country which is devoted to the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of people suffering from this condition and it is also the only of its kind in the world. The limited existence of social researches related to that subject matter is analyzed and it is placed emphasis on health sociology as the main subject of this connection, which aims at organizing information concerning these social contexts in order of importance, as well as some social components related to family sociology and communication. The existent bibliographic sources were reviewed, besides the observation and direct participation of the authors. As a result, the main problems that hinder the good development of social researches on Ataxias (SCA), on the social field, were characterized.REFERENCES
