ABSTRACT
Head and neck reconstruction for defects secondary to tumor resection or trauma are a great challenge for surgeons, depending on the depth, size and location of the site. Free microvascular tissue transfers are now routinely used in reconstructive surgery, leaving local flaps as a second option; however, there are not always ideal circumstances for the use of free flaps. The objective of this article is to give a practical surgical option for treatment of a complex defect of soft tissue in the neck. We describe the case of a patient with a neck defect secondary to a tumor resection, who was treated with a trapezius rotational flap with acceptable postsurgical results.
