Effectiveness of intermaxillary fixation with titanium screws in patients with facial fractures and dentofacial deformities at ISSEMyM Medical Center

ABSTRACT

In this study we evaluated the efficacy of intermaxillary fixation in 62 patients with facial fractures and four with dentofacial anomalies, using titanium screws for a rigid bone fixation at the ISSEMyM Medical Center. All patients were evaluated clinically and with X-rays to assess the dental vitality and mobility, dental occlusion, surgical time and the presence or absence of vascular or nerve injury. Documented the complications we refer to have been attributed to the rigid bone fixation or the nature of the fracture. No complications were found inherent to the use of titanium screws for intermaxillary fixation. On the basis of these results, we conclude that the use of titanium screws is a useful alternative in patients requiring intermaxillary fixation.
