ABSTRACT
Objective: Analyze symptoms in the nervous system in the oil industry workers exposed to different levels of solvents. Method: Type of study: Transversal, analytic, conducted on 119 workers, of which 26 and 60 are more and less exposure respectively compared with 33 unexposed. Instruments used: socio-demographic labor and questionnaire, Swedish Questionnaire Q - 16 and Visual Retention Test of Benton. Results: The age of workers was included in a range of 19-50 years old, with an average of 39.22 (+/- 7.02) years of schooling in a range of 2-24 years with a mean of 15.7 (+/- 42 years) 72% exposed to chemical substances at different levels. It was observed 32% of altered results in the TRVB assesses visual memory, perception and visualconstructive skills and 9% positive for the presence of symptoms was obtained in the nervous system in Swedish Questionnaire Q - 16. The comparison of means test in the Benton Visual Retention among the lowest exposure and unexposed (p = 0.011) and among the most exposed and unexposed (p = 0.05). Swedish Questionnaire Q - 16, no significant differences were found. Conclusions: Significant statistical differences in the presence of symptoms were found in the nervous workers most exposed to solvents toluene, xylene and benzene and their mixtures system.REFERENCES
