ABSTRACT
Nowadays, tuberculosis (TB) still remains an important
public health problem in many countries, including
Mexico, where annually about 20,000 new cases and
2,000 deaths from this disease are presented. In our
country, the risk of getting TB because of HIV infection
is only 2%, compared to 25% in cases of people with
diabetes, found both in the southeast and northeast
of the Republic. Because of the fact that there are
opportunities to improve eff ective screening and
diagnosis of tuberculosis in general, and where the
methods available today vary even more in patients
with diabetes mellitus, in the Centro de Investigación y
Asistencia en Tecnología y diseño del Estado de Jalisco,
A.C. (CIATEJ). we will seek for and validate compounds
derived from the bacteria, looking for the best ones that
are recognized by people with diabetes mellitus, and
then defi ne the usefulness of these bacterial derived
molecules, in the early detection of TB in these patients
(use them as biomarkers), ideally before manifesting
any complications and evaluate the implementation of
preventive therapy in them.
