ABSTRACT
Introduction: sepsis is defined as life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by an unregulated host response to infection. Objective: to identify the factors of prognosis of the patients admitted with sepsis in the Intensive Care Unit at Aleida Fernandez Chardiet Teaching General Hospital among 2012-2015.
Method: an observational, analytic and retrospective trial was carried out. The study population was 220 patients who were diagnosed with sepsis.
Results: Dead patients presented an average age of ≥ 57 years old (p= 0,000; OR= 2,9. IC 95%=1,7-5,1); an APACHE II score initial as average ≥ 13 points (p= 0,000; OR = 12,7; IC 95%= 2,59-8,17). A SOFA with an average of ≥ 5 points (p= 0,000; OR= 100,5; IC 95%= 38,9-259,8) and that all of them were connected to mechanic artificial ventilator, with statistically significant results (p= 0,000; OR= 4,60, IC 95%= 2,59-8,17). Cardiovascular dysfunction marked the difference with a p= 0,000; OR= 99 and a IC 95%= 39,46-248,35. According to multivariate logistic regression model the variables significantly associated to mortality were APACHE II ≥ 13 points (OR adjusted 7,6; IC 95% 2,46-23,78), SOFA ≥ 5 points (OR adjusted 12,7; IC 95% 2,48-64,9) and cardiovascular disfunction (OR adjusted 11,7; IC 95% 2,5-54,3).
Conclusions: the factors of prognosis of patients admitted by sepsis in the service that were identified with APACHE II ≥ 13 points, SOFA ≥ 5 points and cardiovascular dysfunction.
