ABSTRACT
Introduction: Gorham-Stout syndrome is a malformation of the lymphatic system that occurs mainly in young people; it is non-neoplastic in nature, affects mainly soft and bony tissues, and has a local aggressiveness and unpredictable evolution.
Objective: We present the case of a patient with this syndrome and discuss the current therapeutics.
Clinical case: It is a 15-year-old male patient who suffers from a right femoral neck trauma fracture: he is operated on and in the postoperative period develops osteolysis in the proximal femur, acetabulum, ilium and ischiopubic bones, obturator muscles, and gluteus maximus muscle; he was treated with bisphosphonates.
Discussion: Focused osteolysis, with no apparent cause, especially in children or adolescents, and after discarding other causes of osteolysis, does not point to this syndrome; it is, therefore, considered a diagnosis of exclusion. The histopathological sample is of great help. Being aware of its existence helps us guide the therapeutics and, thus, change the evolution of this disease.
