ABSTRACT
Management in the acute stage of cerebrovascular disease requires that physicians who provide support to these patients have knowledge of basic physiological mechanisms. Cerebral autoregulation and perfusion may be altered by evolution in the early stages of the disease. Hypotensive episodes can be deleterious to our patients. Although the recent literature does not support benefits in relation to the reduction of blood pressure in ischemic and haemorrhagic events, management must still be adhered to the available management guidelines. Some relevant aspects of this topic of discussion in neurointensivism are described.
