ABSTRACT
Folliculitis is an inflammatory skin disease of the pilosebaceous follicle. It is clinically characterized by pustules, sometimes with a central hair. Its evolution can be acute, subacute or chronic. It is classified on the basis of its etiology in infectious and noninfectious. The main causal agent is Staphylococcus aureus. Predisposition factors are occlusion, maceration, hyperhidrosis, S. aureus nasal carrier, previous use of topical steroids, oils and other chemical products that favor bacterial colonization.
