Characterization of violence in students from first year of Community Integral Medicine. Guárico, Venezuela

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Violence has been identified as a public health problem for de World Health Organization ,people recognize that they had been affected by violence at any time of their life. In the last decade Venezuela presented increased levels of different victims of violence, but in Guárico State this problem has not been neither studied, nor even since the point of view of the self-perception.Objective: To recognize by self-perception, violence elements in medical students at first year of the Community and Family Medical Program.
Materials and Methods: A simple test of multiple choice was applied to 81,4% of the students at the Integral Diagnostic Center Tulio Pineda, in the period January- February of 2015. Data were registered in double entrance tables and results were expressed in percentages.
Results: The majority of the person polled were abused with predominance in female, age between 17 to 20 years old; the most frequently type of abuses found out were: violent oral expressions, threats in the community and at home. Sexual abuse was less frequent, only in female. The observation of violent behaviors was very frequent but, the 40% of the victims were women.
Conclusions: In Guárico, although violence is no consider a serious problem. The preventive influence would constitutes a health problem to be solved. The preventive influence which could be offered by the students who were the object of this study will allow them to identify the cultural habits that are recognized as normal in that environment.
