ABSTRACT
Introduction: Patient satisfaction is an indicator of the quality of health services.
Objective: To describe the quality of anesthesia recovery using a Scale of postoperative recovery quality in patients operated under regional or general anesthesia.
Material and methods: A descriptive, prospective cross-sectional study was performed to evaluate patient satisfaction postoperatively after receiving general or regional anesthesia elective.
Results: We studied 514 patients, who were given anesthesia according to the surgical procedure. The degree of satisfaction of the anesthesia in three moments was evaluated by the postoperative recovery quality scale. The mean age was 43.2 ± 12.8 years, in the general group and 46.4 ± 12.7 years, in the regional group. Female gender predominated in the general group (66.4%) and the male in the regional group (65.5%). ASA I prevailed (56.4%) for the general group and ASA II (49.7%) for the regional group. In both groups the BMI was similar. The domains of recovery, with general anesthesia were thirst (23.8%), cold (29.0%), nausea (5.1%), pain (27.4%) and vomiting (2.2%). From the emotional domain, satisfaction was assessed in the general group of 98.9% in T0, 98.9% in T15 and 98.1% in T40. In regional group in the three moments was 99.3%. In the cognitive domain, satisfaction with general anesthesia was 100% in T0, 98.1% in T15 and 100% in T40. In the regional group in the three moments was cataloged of 100%. Complications in the general group were 1.6% and in the regional group there were no complications.
Conclusions: It was shown that the domains of the postoperative recovery quality scale were easy to evaluate and the majority of patients were fully satisfied. The complications were scarce with both anesthetic method and its minimal influence on the degree of satisfaction.
