Hospital mortality in the rooms of internal medicine of the Cienfuegos Provincial Hospital 2013-2015

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The intrahospital mortality is an important parameter in the sanitary assistance analysis and it is one of the elements taking into account to evaluate the service quality or sanitary instruction. Objective: To describe the mortality in Internal Medicine Ward from January 1st, 2013 to December 31st, 2015 in Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Cienfuegos Provincial Hospital. Material and Methods: An observational descriptive and cross-sectional study with the patients bigger than 18 years died in the rooms of internal medicine was performed. The following variables were studied: age, sex, hospital demurrage, cause of death. Results: the study shows predominance in male sex death (54.5%); mainly in the 3st age patient in the ages of 50 to 80 with 411 cases. The greater numbers of death patient in the first 72 hours represent a media of 6.7 days. The pathology which cause the grater death were: pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, malignant tumor and respiratory chronic decease in lower ways. Conclusions: The work gathers similar data from national and international authors of this topic, taking into account studies variables.
