ABSTRACT
Introduction: The brain tumors constitute a serious situation of health and our country and the county of Sancti Spíritus are not exempt of this entity for their great incidence. Objective: To characterize the patients with diagnosis of brain tumors in the General University Hospital "Camilo Cienfuegos" of the county of Sancti Spíritus between the months of January of 2009 and December of 2014. Material and Methods: A longitudinal retrospective observational descriptive study was performed. The data coming from clinical histories, postsurgical reports, inform of axial tomography and of biopsies, data of mortality and of population of the countywere obtained. Results: Mostly suffered the illness the patients of the masculine sex understood among the 49 and 60 years of age for 23%. The histologycal varying that was detected most often was astrocitomas (n=19). The modality that bigger number of deaths takes place is glioblastomas (n=9). The lethality figure reached by brain tumors is high ascending to a 34.38%. Conclusions: Brain tumors affect people mainly among the 49 and 60 years of age, the masculine sex and people of white skin. The rate of mortality for the population of the county was not high, on the other hand the lethality rate registered figures of more significance.
