ABSTRACT
Introduction: the hybrid operating room at Hospital General de
Mexico Dr. Eduardo Liceaga is equipped with a robotic angiograph
which allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive complex vascular
and visceral procedures.
Purpose: present our initial experiences and evaluate the benefits
of preoperative embolization.
Material and Methods: a descriptive, observational study of a
series of cases. We reviewed clinical records, image files, and questionnaires
with surgeons and an anesthesiologist.
Results: twenty-three (23) preoperative embolizations were performed.
The lesions embolized were 13 neoplasms, 8 arteriovenous
malformations, and two cases of placenta percreta. Temporary and
permanent embolizing materials were used.
Conclusions: operations in one to four areas of surgical specialization
were performed following embolization. All interview subjects
agreed that there was less transoperative bleeding. The surgeons and
anesthesiologist recognize the benefits of preoperative embolization
in the hybrid operating room.
