Hemoptisis as a late clinical manifestation in a case of pulmonary adenomatoidea cyst. A case study

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Hemoptysis in children and adolescents entails differential diagnosis about these pathologies, principally infectious and neoplasic type; the critical route commonly focuses these diseases, turning aside itself of congenital illness that could appear exceptionally with hemoptysis, like as Congenital Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation of Lung (CAML).
Clinic report: Male 14 years old with cough, hemoptysis and anemia. Thoracic X-ray shows left lower lobe opacification with an air fluid level. Tomography with multiple cystic formations and central heterogenous lesion image. Initial diagnosis was bronchiectasis or bronchiogenic cyst. Surgery finding vascular aspect and central cavitation in lower lobe, rescinds the same one. Hystopatologic report was CAML type I.
Conclussions: CAML are rare and their clinical presentation and severity vary widely with dramatic occurrence in neonates but in some few cases, manifestations can be delayed until adolescence or adult age. Even so, hemoptysis is exceptional. Nevertheless, is essential to review the clinical and surgical-hystopatologic correlation. Treatment is surgical resection, which extends our view of this pathology, as in present case.
