ABSTRACT
Prehypertension is a condition defined in a range of 120-139/80-89 mmHg that could affect up to 52% of the worldwide population. The subjects with prehypertension have a twofold or threefold higher risk of developing hypertension. Hypertension can affect up to 70% of the adult population. On the other hand, prehypertension is in its own a cardiovascular risk factor that, along with others, promotes the presence of cardiovascular disease. It is necessary to divulge the knowledge of the concepts of prehypertension through strategies that allow a wide diffusion. These could allow preventive measurements to the rising incidence of hypertension and to stop or delay the development of cardiovascular diseases.
