ABSTRACT
The colostrum and the breast feeding confer protection to the unweaned baby. It is well known that both of them contain substances which provide immunity against illness that are produced by bacterium, parasites and virus. We did research on all children under five years who were diagnosed with diarrhoea probably produced by Vibrio cholerae, at the Regional General Hospital No. 72, of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, from 1991 to 1995. We found just two children under one year, with such illness, who hadn’t had motherly lactation. Because of that, 32 samples of colostrum, which were obtained and conserved in refrigeration by no more than 48 hours were analyzed. A suspension of Vibrio cholerae 01 (10 µL) in 990 µL of colostrum, was placed in each one of the test tubes. The suspension of bacterium and the colostrum were contacted in several times: 0, 15, 30 and 60 minutes. We observed that the more time, the less colonies of bacterium were developed. This is a result statistically significative (p ‹ 0.001).
