ABSTRACT
Introduction: The classification of the American Society of Anesthesiologists physical state, is the evaluation method most used by the anesthesiologist before the anesthetic procedure. However, there are inconsistencies in using this classification system. There are no reports of the variability of this record by Latin American anesthesiologists.
Objective: Evaluate the percentage of variability to classify the physical condition of surgical patients American Society of Anesthesiologists system among anesthesiologists of the Hospital General de Mexico.
Method: Allocation score by anesthesiologists with the classification system of the American Society of Anesthesiologists in a ten hypothetical clinical scenarios questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed with frequencies and percentages for quantitative variables.
Results: The results of 121 anesthesiologists, 65 (53.7%) females and 56 (46.3%) males were analyzed. The best classification clinical scenarios corresponded to number 1 (84.3%), 7 (64.5%) and 4 (61.2%).
Conclusions: Variability among anesthesiologists General Hospital of Mexico to use the classification of the ASA-PS was observed.
