ABSTRACT
Objective: To know the epidemiological profile and visual results of corneal transplant during the period from 2012 to 2015 in a public hospital of the third level of care.
Methods: A retrospective cohort included records of patients older than 15 years, both genders, that during the period 2012-2015 underwent a cornea transplant in a public hospital of the third level of care. The variables included in the study were age, gender, place of residence, socioeconomic status, occupation, education, diagnosis, preoperative and postoperative visual acuity, comorbidity, complications and postoperative drugs. Fisher exact test was used, with p ≤ 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: 75 patients were included of 17 to 89 years old (x = 43.57, SD = 17.35), 40 were female. The 21.33% of the transplanted people didn’t complete their studies. About 96% were located in the middle and lower socioeconomic levels. The predominant diagnosis was keratoconus and visual capacity of 20/400 (n = 12) and counting fingers (n = 30). The main complication was corneal rejection (n = 17).
