ABSTRACT
Anal condyloma acuminata must be considered as a sexually transmitted disease. Proctological examination allows identification of lesions in the anal canal, perianal area and distal rectum.
Objective: To know the early recurrence of anal condiloma after surgical excision and fulguration (condylomectomy).
Material and methods: A retrospective, descriptive and observational study was carried out in the Colon and Rectal Unit of the Gastroenterology Service in the General Hospital of Mexico City, from January 2001 to December 2002, that included all first time patients diagnosed with anal condyloma, submitted to condylomectomy and with a minimum follow up of one year.
Results: 5.022 files were reviewed: 142 patients had anal condyloma acuminata, of which only 57 fulfilled the inclusion criteria: 43 (75.4%) were male and 14 (24.6%) female. Median age was 25 years (range 15-48). 24 patients had early recurrence, of whom 17 ( 70.8%) were male and 7 (29.2%) female.
