ABSTRACT
Objective: We evaluated the effectiveness over time of the Nd: YAG 1064 nm laser treatment combining Micropulse and Q-switched modes on the reduction of enlarged facial pores in a group of Venezuelan subjects.
Material and methods: 26 patients were treated at UNIMEL (September 2012-2014), Caracas, Venezuela, using Nd YAG laser 1064 nm (Spectra VRM Laser; Lutronics) Micropulse (2J/cm
2, 8 mm, 10 Hz) followed by Q-switched (1 J/cm
2, 8 mm, 10 Hz, 5 ns). The pore size was assessed quantitatively before treatment, after the treatment (eight weeks) and six months after treatment using the Visia system. Nonparametric comparative analysis (Friedman test) of the data obtained was performed.
Results: A significant reduction in pore size of the left and right side face regions (p 0.0001) as well as of the frontal region (p ‹ 0.005) was found at eight weeks of treatment. The improvement was sustained over time with no significant differences in the values of the pore size after six months of treatment compared with those obtained at eight weeks.
Conclusion: YAG Nd 1064 nm treatment combining micropulse and Q-switched modes is effective over time for reducing the size of facial pores.
