Diagnostic scales and their usefulness in the clinical evaluation of abdominal pain syndrome in the first step of medical care

ABSTRACT

Abdominal pain syndrome is one of the most commonly reported reasons for consultation in clinical practice and may account for up to 40% of outpatient visits. It represents 5 to 25% of the visits to the emergency departments, and of these, 35 to 43% are diagnosed as abdominal pain in the study. One in every 15-20 Mexicans will have acute appendicitis at some point in their life. To promote that the use of the Alvarado scale in those age groups where the highest sensitivity is already demonstrated in both primary care and hospital care units in patients with acute abdominal pain syndrome suspected of acute appendicitis.
