ABSTRACT
Introduction: Patient safety is a priority for the improvement of care and decrease the consequences of medical error aspect, to achieve a change in this regard, the education of health professionals is necessary from the undergraduate. Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge on patient safety in internal medicine at the Isle of Youth. Method: an evaluative study in a universe made up of all inmates who were rotating through the "Heroes del Baire" Hospital in early June of 2015. He met the ethical principle of confidentiality of data. Frequency distributions were calculated for qualitative variables and measures of central tendency and variability for quantitative variables. The information was processed using SPSS 21. Results: "Learning about patient safety before graduation will allow me to become a more effective doctor" was answered by all and with the maximum. The average number of students in almost total disagreement with "A true professional makes no mistakes" was high. For the contrary, "Even the most experienced and competent doctors make mistakes" and "Most medical errors result from careless nurses" They denote that there is little culture in this sense, as were claims that more variability in their response provided, with an average score tending to neutrality. Conclusion: In internal medicine at the Isle of Youth, were found to have average knowledge level of patient safety.REFERENCES
