Giant condyloma or Buschke-Lowenstein tumor

ABSTRACT

Introduction: giant condyloma or Buschke-Lowenstein is a benign epithelial tumor of viral origin and sexually communicable that may become malignant in rare cases. Giant condylomas in children have been barely studied. However, the explosive rise of adult cases has also brought about an increase in children in the last few years. There are several treatments of the tumor, but the most effective one is the radical surgical resection to avoid relapses and malignity.
Case presentation: ten years-old girl seen at the dermatological service because of dermatological lesions compatible with Buschke-Lowenstein tumor diagnosis.
Conclusions: Buschke-Lowenstein tumor is giant condyloma which, although more frequent in men, may occur in children. Though the surgical treatment is considered the most effective option, the electrofulguration might be used in many cases with positive results and less possible complications than the conventional surgery.
