ABSTRACT
Objective: To identify the causes of interconsultation by pain in the pediatric population of the General Hospital of Mexico. Materials and Methods: 153 patients are included, 70(46%) female and 83 (54%) male patients, hospitalized in different areas of the Pediatrics Unit: Neonatology, Pediatrics I.C.U. and E.R., Specialties, Surgery, and Hemato-Oncology; all of them, interconsulted by the Pediatrics Pain Clinic in Hospital General de México. The statistical record included the process from 2008-2010. Patients with different nosological entities are described according to their type of pain and the implementation of different treatments. Results: 6 patients (4%) from Neonatology, 16 patients (10%) from E.R. and I.C.U., 26 patients (17%) from Specialties, 30 patients (20%) from Surgery, and 75 patients (49%) from Hemato-Oncology were reported. Conclusions: All implemented treatments are different for each patient, because pain has to be evaluated by analyzing causes integrally, considering all mechanisms, influential factors, associated behavior, and the Natural History of the Disease itself.REFERENCES
