ABSTRACT
Introduction: the fecal incontinence affects the quality of life seeming to exist
association with the increase of the age in women.
Objective: to identify affectations of the quality of life to describe the confrontation behavior and the psychosocial vulnerability in medium age women.
Method: exploratory-descriptive, observational, longitudinal investigation. (January
2015-March 2016) including 22 women of medium age. The questionnaire FIQL was
applied for quality of life. Folkman and Lazarus for the confrontation and the
vulnerability questionnaire of Pérez-Lovelle. They were considered frequencies for
qualitative variables, medium and IC for quantitative being compared by means of
Levene, test
t. and Mann Whitney and Wilcoxon of two lines for significance of 0.05.
Consent was requested, guaranteeing confidentiality for results.
Results: women prevailed older than 50 years (54 %). The quality of life was
seriously affected, with low points for the four dimensions, with significance
(p=0.029) for public image and shame in older. Few were vulnerable, negative
confrontations prevailed (escape-evocation and distancing) without significance
among groups.
Conclusions: the fecal incontinence affected the quality of life of the women,
particularly the domain image and shame without relationship with graveness. The
predominant negative confrontations suggest including psychological therapies in
treatments.
