ABSTRACT
Objective: To validate the Mexican Spanish version of the modified Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (mRQLQ). Material and methods: Observational, prospective, and cross sectional study. Setting: This study was conducted at an ISSSTE institutional referral center in Mexico City. Participants: Patients with Rhinoconjuntivitis, between 6 and 80 years, both genders. Non-probabilistic quota sampling, 52 patients first visiting between October 2013 and October 2014. Instrument. The 29 items that explored seven dimensions (nasal symptoms, eye symptoms, physical health, practical problems, social function, emotional function, sleep, and productivity was designed to be applied and with outcome of the English versions of the RQLQ and the WPAIS, and the Beck Depression Inventory was translated, culturally adapted, and tested. The response to each item was measured on an ordinal Likert scale. The ARIA questionnaire was also used to compare the classification. Results: Mean age was 37.6 ± 18.76 years, women 68%. Reliability: Cronbach’s alpha coefficient α = 0.98, and factor analysis: KMO = 0.644 (satisfactory sampling adequacy). Bartlett sphericity test p ‹0.001, (proper identity matrix). Factors obtained: seven (confirmatory). Explained variance: 74.72%; range of high factor loadings (0.494–0.913). Conclusions: The mRQLQ proved to be a reliable and valid instrument in patients with seasonal or perennial Allergic Rhinitis (AR); model validation largely exceeded the minimal assumptions of their construct. Limitations: It is necessary to continue the modified RQLQ in other populations, in different scenarios to have more elements that contribute to assessing their validity.REFERENCES
