ABSTRACT
Gnathostomiasis in Mexico is caused by
Gnathostoma binucleatum, although to present time this is not totally demonstrated, since there are also another two species that can be involved. For a long time, this disease was considered rare and sporadic in Mexico, however, up to now more than 8 000 cases have been reported, whereby it is a serious public health problem. Only ten cases of ocular gnathostomiasis have been registered in Mexico since it was discovered in 1970, which represents only 0.12% of the total cases.
