Usefulness of the subject Philosophy and Society for the medical graduates

ABSTRACT
Introduction: In Cuba, the human capital in health is considered the most important resource for the health system. The training of these professionals is based on the principles of our revolutionary government: the Marxist-Leninist ideology, ethics and humanism, all of which are areas of study of Philosophy.Objective: Identify the medical graduates' perceptions about the subject Philosophy and Society's usefulness in providing health care services at Pulido Humarán Polyclinic of La Lisa Municipality.
Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study using a survey conducted on graduated with less than five years of experience and in-depth interviews to the professors in charge of imparting the subject that is our object of study.
Results: Philosophy came to be, according the perceptions provided, the most complex, disgusting, and less used subject in providing health care.
Conclusions: The medical graduates perceive the subject Philosophy and Society as a complex and complicated subject, and they do not manage to identify its usefulness in the medical practice, despite unconsciously daily applying the knowledge provided by this subject.
