ABSTRACT
Chronic illnesses have increased in the world; this is one of
the reasons why preventive measures were created. Organizations
such as United Nations Food and Agriculture (FAO)
and World Health Organization (WHO) promote education
of population to healthy food choices. In this way, nutritional
facts of food was implemented, however, their effectiveness
has not been accurately determined. The objective of this
study was to analyze the feeding behavior of six groups of
university students in order to evaluate the effects of nutritional
facts on food consumption, taking into account the
effects of sex and capacity to discriminate between different
types of food. After being evaluated some aspects of
the participants’ feeding behavior, the experimental groups were trained to use the nutritional facts. Subsequently, all
participants were exposed to three varieties of the same
food. Results showed that food consumption was modified
of different way for each experimental group in relation with
sex and capacity to interpret nutritional facts.
