ABSTRACT
Background: In Mexico Trophoblastic disease occurs in 2.4 pregnancies
for every 1000, mola invasive 1 each 40 molar pregnancies
and choriocarcinoma in 1 of every 150,000 normal pregnancies. There
have been reported few cases of postpartum choriocarcinoma stage IV,
which is a very curable disease, the mean number of chemotherapy
cycles is seven with successful results in 85%.
Case Report: Descriptive study of a case of postpartum Choriocarcinoma
stage IV and its evolution with chemotherapy. Medical literature
review used MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). Choriocarcinoma and
Postpartum. Timely diagnosis as well as treatment based chemotherapy
with adequate response and improvement of symptoms was done. The
key point was to distinguish early signs and symptoms and use of early
chemotherapy treatment.
Conclusions: The postpartum Choriocarcinoma is a rare entity,
which tends to have a mortality rate between 10-15% independent of
early diagnosis and treatment. The factors of pregnancy, with previous
abortion, previous mola and hyperemesis with respiratory or neurological
symptoms, as well as high quantification of beta subunit human
chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) are very useful. The case presented here
received early diagnosis, adequate treatment and follow-up.
