ABSTRACT
Background: Placental subinvolution bed is an entity recognized
as a cause of late postpartum hemorrhage, but its true incidence is
unknown and published series collected a few cases.
Objetive: To review cases with the pathological diagnosis of “uterine
subinvolution bed” that occurred in the last 10 years in our center.
Knowing the incidence, risk factors, treatment and complications.
Methods: Historical analysis of 3 patients with histologically confirmed
subinvolution the placental bed in the University Hospital
Complex of Ourense (Spain) between January 2004 and 2014.
Bibliographic review via PubMed MEDLINE search under the terms
and Ovid: Subinvolution of the Placental Site, Subinvolution of the
uteroplacental arteries in the human placental bed, Subinvolution of
the placental bed.
Results: We found an overall incidence of uterine subinvolution bed
of 0.18 per thousand and all of them were enrolled as late postpartum
hemorrhage, being the etiology of 6.12% of them.
Conclusion: Uterine subinvolution bed is a rare but with high maternal
mortality and morbidity process, which is necessary to know to
suspect the diagnosis, which is only confirmed by histology.
