ABSTRACT
A relevant perspective for Behavioral Sciences has been developed
in recent years: the translational research or bridge
research. Although this idea is not to new, the perspective has
been developed in an international context of diminishing
resources and a broad demand that more funds to basic research
could demonstrate more social impact. The discussion
has been broad, since those whom say that the only need
is excellent basic science and total freedom to researchers
in order to decide the scientific priorities of their research
lines, until those whom demand direct resources to applied
or technological research, and people that demand state in
volvement in resources allocation and delimitation of national
research priorities. In this framework translational research
emerges as a rational way of work to cope with such problem.
In this work context for translational research of developmental
and behavioral sciences is analyzed and how this perspective
represent opportunity points to reconsider diverse aspects
related to the conceptual and methodological quality of basic
and applied research. In addition, public politics implications
are analyzed, some useful translational examples in medical
sciences are discussed, and also examples on translational research
on behavioral sciences, social behavior and the human
resources development and dissemination of this perspective
are exposed. The role of higher education institutions is discussed
as a critical element in human resources development in
translational research within behavioral sciences.
