ABSTRACT
The sequelae of facial asymmetries in patients diagnosed with Parry-Romberg syndrome have been amply described; nevertheless, it is important to evaluate the results of the treatment in order to determine the appropriate surgical procedure that can also be used as a guide to provide better treatment for future patients. We present a descriptive study, performed after the surgical treatment of patients with facial asymmetry, in which the resultant symmetry was determined by comparing the pre- and postreatment proportions of three facial widths. We used a measuring technique that considered four facial proportions. The perfect global facial symmetry is equivalent to a score of 4. A total of 27 patients were analyzed, with an average follow-up of 8 years. Before being treated, most of the patients obtained a score that ranged from 3.6 to 3.79, and after the treatment the majority received a score greater than 3.8. We concluded that patients with Parry-Romberg syndrome present facial asymmetry that varies in severity. With the measuring instrument proposed in this project, it was possible to evaluate the improvement in the proportions of facial symmetry after undergoing treatment with lipoinjection and/or any other surgical procedure.
