ABSTRACT
Tuberculous pericarditis occurs in 1-2 percent of patients
with pulmonary tuberculosis (TBP). Pericardial tuberculosis
accounts for approximately 4% of acute pericarditis, 7% of
cases of cardiac tamponade and 6% of cases of constrictive
pericarditis, although its incidence may be much
higher in populations with high prevalence of tuberculosis.
It is known that 50% of patients with
tuberculosis spills are not infected with HIV. It is
a prevalent disease in endemic areas as the state
of Veracruz, and not fully diagnosed in the past
with the new diagnostic tools and the knowledge
of it has become increasingly common, a
phenomenon that affects prognosis of patients
in the medium and long term.
