ABSTRACT
Introduction. Rasmussen encephalitis is a chronic, progressive
and inflammatory hemispheric disease of the central nervous
system characterized by motor focal seizures resistant to treatment
culminating in severe neurological impairment, hemiparesis, aphasia
and cognitive impairment.
Case report. The case of a 16-year-old male patient with
treatment-resistant continuous motor focal seizures is presented and
a description of the disease is discussed for the medical community.
Conclusion. Rasmussen encephalitis should be part of the
differential diagnosis in patients with chronic status epilepticus
characterized by focal seizures whose clinical picture has begun
with encephalopathy with behavioral changes. Early treatment may
reduce the number of clinical complications in the long term.
