ABSTRACT
Background: collagen diseases can affect one or several
components of the nail apparatus.
Objectives: to learn the manifestations of the nail apparatus
in hospitalized patients with diagnosis of collagen diseases
(les, dermatomyositis, systemic sclerosis, mixed disease of the
connective tissue, rheumatoid arthritis) of the General Diseases
Hospital igss.
Methodology: a descriptive study was performed in 43
patients hospitalized in the medical services at the General
Diseases Hospital igss with diagnosis of collagen diseases (les,
dermatomyositis, systemic sclerosis, mixed disease of the connective
tissue, rheumatoid arthritis) from January 1, 2009 to
June 30, of 2016, to study the manifestations of this type of
diseases in the nail apparatus.
A comprehensive review of the hand nail apparatus was
conducted in all the patients and no nail diseases other than
those related with the diseases under study were included.
Outpatients were not included.
Results: The results are shown in tables 1 and 2.
Conclusions: collagen diseases can affect the entire nail apparatus.
This study shows that the proximal fold was the most
affected in dermatomyositis and in systemic sclerosis with the
presence of dilated capillary, thickened cuticle and avascular
areas. During the physical exam to this type of patients it is
important to consider these clinical data and the use of the
dermatoscope.
