ABSTRACT
Purpose. The ureteral stent placement is common practice after ureteroscopy, we investigate if is possible renounce at them.
Methods. Twenty one patients witch calculi minor 20 mm after stone fragmentation with introcorporeal lithotripsy were analyzed in two groups: Group one, nonstented (n = 10) and group two, stented (n = 11) independent of calculi impactation or ureteral edema. Removed ureteral stent after seven days , we evaluated the first day, seven, fifteen and thirty. The symptoms and analgesic requirements. Renal ultrasonography, RX abdominal chest and chirurgical time reported.
Results. There are no differences in calculi side, chirurgical time, calculi localization and pain intensity. Urinary symptoms and hematury were significantly greater in the stented group (n = 0.002). One patient of the nonstented group required ureteral stent for lumbar intolerable pain and the other one in the group two visit the emergency room witch lumbar pain.
Conclusion. Ureteral stenting renounced is possible for low frequency of the symptoms in the nonstented patients after ureteroscopy for ureteral calculi. We not believe the routine ureteral stent is necessary , but comment the risk is very important, before take this purpose.
