ABSTRACT
Introduction: Ureterovaginal fistulae are placed in the second position among the
complications of gyneco-obstetric surgery. A Study about the prevalence at "Enrique
Cabrera Cossio" and an updated review of the subject was performed.
Objective: To evaluate the results obtained in the treatment of patients with
ureterovaginal fistula due to complications of gyneco-obstetric surgery.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed in 15 patients with a
diagnosis of ureterovaginal fistulas between January 2003 to December 2013,
admitted in the hospital with ureterovaginal fistulae from complications of obstetric
and gynecological surgery. It was drawn up a database with statistical processing
program SPSS version 13.0. The variables considered were; age, cause of surgery,
place of the ureteral injury, technique used in the solution of UVF and complications
presented.
Results: 50 % of the patients were under 50 years and the most frequent
gynecological cause was uterine fibroids, the uretovaginal fistulae was seen in 80 % of
abdominal surgery. The most common site of injury was the lower third of the ureter
and ureteral re-implantation was performed using Paquín's technique in 86.7 % of
cases without observing complications.
Conclusions: Surgical corrections of the uerterovaginal fistulae have good evolution
when they are diagnosed and treated properly. An actualization in the pathology was
made.
