ABSTRACT
Nystagmus is an involuntary, rhythmic and uncontrolled movement of both eyes, which it is manifested when fixing the gaze in one direction; it can be congenital or acquired, and it is associated to childhood eye diseases. Visual rehabilitation can be achieved through an early diagnosis. Measures will be aimed at achieving as much as vision as possible: eyeglasses to correct ametropies, exercises and visual stimulation. An investigation made in the Low Vision Consultation at the University Hospital «Arnaldo Milián Castro» of Santa Clara showed that, from 894 seen patients, the 1.3 % had idiopathic congenital nystagmus associated to other diseases, and 11 of them improved their vision with the use of eyeglasses. White, male and age ranged from 0 to 14 years predominated. It has a low prevalence and a successful percentage of visually rehabilitate patients. They must be sent to the Low Vision Consultation since their early ages.REFERENCES
