ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship
between the primary process, the manifestation of anxiety and
defense mechanisms on patients that attend a College Mental
Health Clinic. A non probabilistic sample of 200 first time
patients answered the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAS),
Categorization Test of Brakel,
et al. and the Questionnaire of
Defensive Styles (DSQ-40). Is expected to confirm what
appears in the literature in this regard, that the primary process
occurs when there is anxiety and immature defense
mechanisms. In addition, the immature defense mechanisms
are present with anxiety. The results only confirmed the
hypothesis that a lower level of anxiety increasing secondary
process and a greater secondary process more mature defense
mechanisms exists.
