ABSTRACT
Introduction: Non invasive mechanic ventilation was used in neonates with breath difficulties for first time by Gregory in 1971. It consists to apply a ventilation help without to establish an endotracheal way, it means without the requirement of tracheal intubation or tracheotomy. Objective: to determine the impact of non invasive ventilation in the mortality.
Method: an observational descriptive and transversal trial was carried out in the period of time from January 2013 to January 2014. The universe was everyone ventilated person for both invasive and non invasive method during this period, the sample was 18 patients with non invasive ventilation.
Results: the group of 61 years of age or more was the predominant in a 50 % and women were majority found with a 61.1%. Bronchopneumonia was observed in 44.4% being the health problem which needed of non invasive ventilation followed by acute episodes of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and septic shock with 16.7%.
Conclusions: there was not report of death in patients treated with non invasive ventilation and the average stage on the service was bigger in patients where the non invasive ventilation failed.
