ABSTRACT
Herpes simplex virus encephalitis is an infection of the central nervous system and is a medical emergency because of its high morbidity and mortality, which requires a very timely diagnosis and treatment. We report the case of a six-year-old male with a history of fever between 38-40 degrees Celsius with a seven-day course of evolution, to which an episode of seizures was added; he was hospitalized for management and studies. Most encephalitis are of viral origin; type 1 and 2 herpes simplex viruses are of great importance, so early management with antiviral drugs, as well as laboratory, lumbar puncture and cabinet should be started to prevent neurological sequelae. The current prognosis of infections of the central nervous system has greatly improved thanks to the diagnostic and therapeutic advances.
