ABSTRACT
Hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype has been defined as a combination of two components: increased triglyceride levels alongside a high waist circumference measure. This phenotype refers to a construct created to identify people at risk for cardiovascular or cardio metabolic diseases through their association with risk factors that lead to said diseases. Previous studies have reaffirmed the importance of this construct as a predictor of cardiovascular risk through its association with metabolic abnormalities which include lipid profile alteration, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance, arterial stiffness, metabolic syndrome, among others. Said diseases are well known due to the consequences they bring with them. Hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype has also been recognized as a tool that supports an easy and inexpensive detection of said diseases.
