ABSTRACT
Quality of life can be divided into two dimensions, according to each subject: the subjective or perceptive vision, and an objective health analysis. At the same time, quality of life is a multi-dimensional concept, which has been defined in many ways and times. There are not unique criteria to define it, and it has been intended to measure it through diverse instruments, being questionnaires the main ones. The ideal in this measurement is that it reunites pre-established methodological requirements and can adapt to each individual’s cultural context. Diverse factors can modify a person’s quality of life, mainly in chronic diseases; therefore, it is very important to have knowledge of the treatment and prognostic of a subject. As an example, we can use an oncologic patient, who, depending on his/her tumoral lineage and the site where it is located, will have diverse symptoms. There are specific questionnaires for each cancer, being the EORTC QLQ-C30 the most used for both its reliability and validity. There are also more specific ones, like EORTC QLQ-MY20 for multiple myeloma. Quality of life is a very relevant concept in health care, and we need to start giving it the value it has, mainly because it shows the way, either good or bad, in which each patient perceives his own health status.
